Should the California State Bar be Voluntary?

The next meeting of the Governance in the Public Interest Taskforce, there will be discussion on the organizational structure and functions of the California State Bar. Currently, we have a ‘unified’ bar with two stated roles: 1) protection of the public and 2) advancing the legal profession. All of us must be members of the State Bar in order to practice in California.

Are You in Compliance?

In 2012, the California State Bar performed an audit of 635 attorneys to determine whether or not they were in compliance with their MCLE requirements.  Of those audited, 98 attorneys were found to be non-compliant.  Twenty-four individuals face potential discipline for false reporting and five have been suspended for failing to respond to the audit.  […]
