About the Appellate Section
The ACBA’s Appellate Section focuses on appellate practice and procedure in the state and federal courts. Sections members are trial and appellate litigators who share an interest in appellate law. We welcome all litigators—not just those who are exclusively appellate practitioners—to join us.
Our aim is to help trial lawyers effectively litigate their cases to maximize their chances of success on appeal and avoid common mistakes that can doom an appeal. We also provide MCLE programming on such topics as how to successfully navigate the appellate process; the difference between appeals and writs; key appellate decisions that trial lawyers should know about; when and how to retain appellate counsel; and views from the bench shared by appellate judges and justices.
If you have an interest in appellate law—even if you’ve never litigated an appeal—please consider joining us as a member.
To join the section, please contact our Membership Department at (510) 302-2200 or email@example.com.
Executive Committee Meetings
The Executive Committee is responsible for planning the section’s MCLEs and other networking events throughout the year. If you would like to receive minutes, agendas, or if you would like to attend an Executive Committee meeting, please contact Hadassah Hayashi at firstname.lastname@example.org or (510) 302-2200.
