Installation and Distinguished Service Awards Dinner
Local Attorneys Honored for Service to the Community
Oakland, CA—January 24, 2017—The Alameda County Bar Association (ACBA) will honor the recipients of our Distinguished Service Awards at the Alameda County Bar Association’s 2017 Installation Awards Dinner. David Kelly, General Counsel to the Golden State Warriors will give the Keynote Address. We will also be celebrating 140 years of service to the East Bay legal community.
When: January 26, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Where: The Rotunda Building Oakland, Oakland City Center
Presiding Judge Morris Jacobson, Superior Court of California, County of Alameda, will administer the oath of office to the incoming officers and directors.
The 2017 ACBA officers are: President Eric Handler, a partner at Donahue Fitzgerald LLP in Oakland. Eric specializes in IP law, commercial litigation, and bankruptcy; President-Elect Michael Johnson, Executive Director and Senior Legal Counsel with AT&T Services Inc. Michael specializes in healthcare and governmental contracting issues; Vice-President Cheryl Poncini, Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, where she is currently assigned to the Elder and Dependent Adult Protection Unit. Directors include: Colin Bowen, Megan Burns, Leonard E. Marquez , Joy Ricardo-Clay, Lauren Powe, Pamela Ross, Jr., Vincent Tong, Paul Wellenkamp, and serving Ex-Officio, Stephanie Sato and Alice Cheng.
The installation of officers and directors will be followed by the presentation of the ACBA’s Distinguished Service Awards, which recognize those individuals and groups who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the bar and the community. This year’s awards will be presented to:
- Judge: Judge George Hernandez, Superior Court of California, County of Alameda
- Lawyer: Anna Bednarzcyck, Whiting, Fallon, Ross & Abel LLP
- New Lawyer: Jo-Anna Nieves, The Nieves Law Firm
- Law Firm: All for the Family Legal Clinic
- Community Organization: Alameda County Self-Help Services
All of the award recipients represent tremendous service to the community, whether through acting as mentors, demonstrating leadership, fostering a dynamic social network for new lawyers, partnering with the local community to make our streets safer, or by continuing to provide valuable public services in the face of limited resources.
