Honoring Martha Prempeh: ACBA Distinguished Service Award Recipient

Leading the Next Generation of Attorneys with Passion and Purpose: Martha Prempeh

Martha PrempehThe ACBA is proud to recognize Martha Prempeh as a 2024 Distinguished Service Award recipient for her outstanding leadership, commitment to mentorship, and dedication to strengthening the legal community.

As an active member of the ACBA Barristers Section Executive Committee for the past three years, Martha has been instrumental in fostering professional development opportunities for newer attorneys. One of her most significant achievements is leading the re-implementation of the Barristers Mentorship Program, ensuring that early-career lawyers are paired with experienced mentors to help them navigate the profession. Under her leadership, pairings are set to be announced by the end of January, marking an important milestone in the program’s revival.

Martha has also played a key role in organizing and executing the Barristers and Judges Night, an event that creates an invaluable space for newer attorneys to engage with members of the judiciary. This event has become a highlight of the ACBA calendar, offering young lawyers the chance to build relationships with judges in an approachable and collaborative setting.

Her dedication to mentorship and community-building will continue in 2025 as she steps into her role as the incoming Barristers Chair, where she will further advance the section’s mission of supporting and developing the next generation of legal professionals.

Beyond her leadership in the ACBA, Martha is a skilled litigator practicing insurance defense litigation at Santana, Vierra, Stevenson, and Harris. She has also previously worked in tax and family law, bringing a well-rounded perspective to her legal practice. A passionate advocate, she is committed to vigorously defending her clients’ interests and making a meaningful impact in their lives.

A Bay Area native, Martha earned her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Her enthusiasm for law stems from her deep commitment to justice and equity. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys traveling, music, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.

Martha’s leadership, dedication, and vision have already left a lasting mark on the ACBA Barristers Section, and we are excited to see the continued impact she will make in the years ahead.

Congratulations, Martha, on this well-deserved honor!
