Tiela Chalmers Recieves Loren Miller Legal Services Award from the California Lawyers Association
We are ever so proud of ACBA and Legal Access Alameda CEO Tiela Chalmers for many reasons, but especially this weekend as she received the Loren Miller Legal Services Award from the California Lawyers Association! This award honors an attorney who has demonstrated long-term commitment to legal services and who has personally engaged in significant work extending legal services to the poor.
Tiela’s long career has certainly demonstrated a committment to pro bono legal services. After working for years in a downtown law firm, Tiela moved to the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Volunteer Legal Services Program, where she worked for 15 years, ultimately as its Executive Director. In 2011, Tiela became a consultant focusing on legal services for low-income communities, working nationally. In 2014, she joined the ACBA/Legal Access Alameda. She chairs the Disaster Legal Services Collaborative, a statewide group of bar associations, legal services providers, and champions working to provide free legal assistance to survivors of disasters. She retires at the end of this year, congratulations Tiela!
Please join us in celebrating Tiela’s career at her retirement party fundraiser for Legal Access Alameda. This celebration will be at Tiela’s very own synagogue in SF on Saturday, October 7th. We will have a DJ and dance floor and all out 70’s and 80’s music – come dance the night away! There will be an open bar with specialty cocktails, and delicious Mediterranean food.
