The ACBA will close for a week to give staff a chance to recharge

The Alameda County Bar Association is proud to announce that we are joining the growing trend of giving our staff a much-needed break to address burnout. The ACBA and Legal Access Alameda are closed for business from Monday, June 20th through Friday June 24th, returning on Monday June 27th.  (We are also closed on Friday, June 17, in observance of Juneteenth.)

More vacation time helps with employees’ mental, emotional and physical health. We’re showing our appreciation for their hard work by shutting down for a week so staff all get an additional week of vacation, and at the same time to reduce the self-induced pressure to keep working during the additional time away from the office.

One of the benefits of the pandemic is that it made us realize that we don’t have to do things just because that’s the way we’ve always done it. At the ACBA, all our staff are working remotely. Braving traffic, suffering crowded BART trains and buses that never run on time seems ridiculous now that we know there are other options. This gives staff more flexibility for childcare and flex work schedules.

Our staff continue to help coordinate the programs and events that made you join the ACBA – and we’ve gone above and beyond, partnering with our volunteers on our Section Executive Committees to produce more MCLE programs than ever before. We’ve transitioned all our MCLE programs to our online platform, allowing people from all over California to take advantage of our unlimited free MCLEs for members.

The ACBA realizes how critical company culture and the wellness and mental health of employees are to any business, and to addressing the needs of our members. Staff will return to their inboxes on June 27th, hopefully feeling appreciated and re-energized to tackle the work ahead!

Questions about why the ACBA is closed? CEO Tiela Chalmers may be reached at tiela@acbanet.org before June 17th, or emergency inquiries may be sent to acbaofficeclosed@gmail.com and will be checked periodically during the office closure. Please consider sending delayed delivery emails to staff during this time, or waiting until we are back in action.
