Streaming Now – Learn How to Help California Wildfire Disaster Survivors

Have you been wondering what you can do to help provide legal assistance to wildfire survivors?

California is experiencing an unprecedented wildfire season with communities impacted up and down the state. The current wildfires have burned over three million acres and are among the state’s largest wildfires in recorded history. As neighborhoods are being evacuated and many lose their homes and businesses, residents face a host of legal issues from insurance to employment and FEMA appeals, and pro bono attorneys can provide crucial help during this time. To assist the legal community in its disaster relief pro bono efforts, PLI’s Providing Legal Assistance in the Aftermath of Disaster 2020 program is available on-demand. This program will provide an overview of key post-disaster legal issues and discuss how to deliver trauma-informed assistance to wildfire survivors.

Topics include:

  • Framework for providing post-disaster legal services and pro bono opportunities
  • Insurance issues
  • Employment and workers’ rights
  • Housing issues faced by tenants, landlords and homeowners
  • FEMA application, appeals, recoupment and other issues
