Updates from Local Superior Courts Week May 4th – May 8th

We’ve compiled updates from our local Superior Courts in one post. We’ll update this post as more information comes in this week.

5.5.20: Contra Costa Superior Court

The Contra Costa Superior Court has issued new emergency local rules for Civil (Second Amended), as well as a separate release describing the changes in more detail.  Please see https://www.cc-courts.org/civil/civil.aspx for both documents.  This page also has information on public and media access to Civil hearing once they recommence.

Among the more significant changes:  For hearings – including law and motion –  calendared May 28, 2020 or thereafter,  briefs will be due under the normal statutory timeframes.  In other words, a party with a hearing on or after May 28, 2020, may be required to file a relevant brief before the expiration of the current court closure period/filing holiday. All emergency local rules are available here: https://www.cc-courts.org/local-rules/local-rules.aspx.

5.7.20: Alameda County Superior Court

The Superior Court of Alameda County has amended Local Rule 3.30 (civil tentative rulings) and emergency Local Rule 1.8a.  These rules are posted on the Court’s Local Rules and the Court’s COVID-19 page.
