Heather Chang

Heather Chang is the ACBA 2019 recipient of our Distinguished Service Award for Attorney. She was recognized on January 24, 2019 at the ACBA Installation and Distinguished Service Awards Dinner.

Heather Chang somehow manages to be involved in almost everything the ACBA does! She is an active panel member of the ACBA’s Court Appointed Attorneys Program as well the Lawyer Referral Service, providing representation to indigent and modest means defendants.

Heather is a former chair of the ACBA’s Judicial Appointments Evaluation Committee and has served in various capacities in that committee since 2012. Fellow committee members observe that Heather, “has been a sterling leader during an especially busy year. She navigated the personalities and schedules of all of the members to make subcommittee assignments, and ensured that we were all fairly contributing.”

Heather also serves as a mentor in the ACBA’s Barristers Mentorship Program and has participated as a panelist in several CLE courses.

Heather is not only active in the ACBA. She is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Women Lawyers of Alameda County; the Immediate Past President of as well as the Mentorship and Training Director for the Asian American Trial Lawyers Association, and she frequently volunteers for Alameda County’s Lawyers in the Library Program, providing free legal advice to community residents.

Heather Chang is a tireless advocate for the underserved, a dedicated mentor to students, new lawyers, and women and people of color in the legal field, and a leader who inspires industriousness, collaboration, and professional excellence.

Heather was also the recipient of our 2013 Distinguished Service Award for Barrister or New Attorney. We are proud to present her with our 2019 Distinguished Service Award for a Lawyer for her continued and demonstrated dedication and service to the legal profession and the community.
