The Oakland City Attorney’s Office provides legal counsel to the City of Oakland, its employees, officers, agencies, boards and commissions, drafting ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other legal documents requested by city officials and departments, reviewing the form and legality of all city contracts, and representing the city in litigation matters.
The Oakland City Attorney’s Office is committed to providing the highest quality legal services to the City of Oakland, promoting open government and accountability to the residents of Oakland in accordance with the letter and spirit of the law, and to applying the law in an innovative and community-oriented manner to improve the quality of life in Oakland.
The Oakland City Attorney’s Office has long been supportive of and active in the Alameda County Bar Association, and their overwhelming participation and leadership has helped to advance the mission and core values of the ACBA. There are currently six employees in leadership roles in the ACBA!
On top of the excellent work Oakland City Attorney’s Office staff, City Attorney Barbara Parker has long promoted and exemplified diversity in the legal profession. She is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the 2015 Public Lawyer of the Year from the State Bar of California, in recognition of her work on behalf of the community and dedication to public service.
