Top 5 Reasons to Dine Around for Justice!

By Jonathan McNeil Wong, partner at Donahue Gallagher Woods LLP

If you are an ACBA member, by now you have received your invitation to participate in Dine Around for Justice, VLSC’s annual dining night out.  On five successive Thursday evenings in August, one of the East Bay’s top restaurants donates a portion of its proceeds to support the pro bono work of VLSC.

I look forward to Dine Around every year.  There are lots of good reasons to go, but these are my Top Five:

  1. Really Great Food.  What’s not to like?
  2. By supporting Dine Around, I not only support the good pro bono work of VLSC, but I also support our local businesses.  That’s a Win-Win.
  3. No dishes to wash!
  4. My nonlawyer friends who think all lawyers are crooks get to hear some good things about what lawyers do for a change. (In case you didn’t know, VLSC has no staff attorneys.  All of the clients that VLSC serves are served by attorney volunteers.  So the money raised by Dine Around goes directly to support pro bono legal services rather than a big administrative staff.)
  5. I can spend a little more on that extra dessert without feeling guilty, since my money will be helping a good cause.

Please join me and my many friends and colleagues at ACBA by Dining Around for Justice in August. Hope to see you there!

P.S.  If you have Yoga or Ironworking or something else on Thursday nights and can’t get away, don’t feel left out!  You can still be a part of the Dine Around event by making an individual contribution to VLSC.  The suggested contribution is $125 (about what you might spend for a nice dinner for two), but any amount is welcome.  Donating is simple: just call VLSC Development Coordinator Whitney Ward at (510) 302-2209 or make your secure online donation here: www.acbanet.org/VLSC/Donate
