Alameda County Bar Association January 2026 events
January is shaping up to be a busy and engaging month at the Alameda County Bar Association, with programs that support professional development, community connection, and MCLE compliance across multiple practice areas. From volunteer training and substantive law updates to social events and end of year compliance planning, there is something on the calendar for every attorney.
We kick off the month on January 9 with two very different but equally compelling opportunities. At noon, Legal Access Alameda will host its Family Law Day of Court Volunteer Training, designed for attorneys interested in providing meaningful pro bono support to self represented litigants. That evening, members are invited to unwind and connect at ACBA Night Out: Cirque du Soleil | ECHO, an in person social event that brings the legal community together outside the courtroom.
On January 12, the ACBA ADR Section presents The Art of Mediation, a lunchtime program focused on sharpening mediation skills and deepening understanding of effective dispute resolution techniques. Later that week, on January 15, members can attend a practical technology focused MCLE on creating automatic Tables of Contents and Tables of Authority in Microsoft Word presented by Clio, a valuable skill for litigators and transactional attorneys alike.
Immigration practitioners will want to reserve the morning of January 20 for Immigration MCLE Day. Session one covers the ethical and practice management implications of paying USCIS filing fees electronically, followed by a wellness competence session focused on reducing vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout. These programs are designed to be both timely and practical, and they offer specialty MCLE credit.
Family law attorneys can join the ACBA Family Law Section on January 21 for a discussion of 2026 federal and state tax code changes and how they impact family law practice. On January 22, the Trusts and Estates Section will present a lunchtime program on AB 2016 and non probate transfers of a decedent’s principal residence. That evening, the ACBA will host its 2026 Installation and Distinguished Service Awards, an in person event celebrating leadership and service within the Alameda County legal community.
The month closes with two major offerings on January 30. Attorneys looking to finalize their MCLE requirements can attend the ACBA Virtual MCLE Compliance Countdown Day, a full day of programming designed to help you meet compliance deadlines efficiently. That same day, the Environmental Section is involved in the Law Review Symposium 2026, a non ACBA event that may be of interest to practitioners in environmental and related fields.
ACBA in-house MCLE programs are free for members, making membership one of the easiest ways to access high quality MCLE, section programming, and community events throughout the year. Nonmembers are always welcome to attend programs at the nonmember rate, and January is a great time to join and take advantage of free access to many of these events.
We look forward to seeing you in January and throughout the year. For full details and registration links, visit the ACBA events calendar, or click a link below.
