About the Section

The Trial Practice Section provides Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) programs for trial lawyers, including litigation strategies and court procedures, and serves as a liaison between the ACBA and the Superior Court on issues affecting the local bar.

In this program an expert panel will discuss the mechanics of retaining and preparing expert witnesses. They will also address how to powerfully present expert testimony at deposition, mediation and trial. The panel includes experienced trial lawyer Mark Mosley, Forensic Pathologist Dr. Judy Melinek, and Accident Reconstruction Engineer Craig Fries.

This program will examine California laws, issues and common pitfalls regarding the presentation, creation, admissibility and objections to audio and video evidence sought to be introduced at civil and criminal trials.

Secrets to Settling Cases: Tips From the Bench (Save the date)

May 29, 2014 12:15 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.

Please join the ADR and Trial Practice Sections and Alameda County Judge Paul Herbert for a discussion on little known secrets to settling cases. This is an excellent opportunity to hear directly from Judge Herbert about his experience as a small claims and settlement conference judge. Judge Herbert will offer tips for new and experienced practitioners alike on what works and doesn’t work to settle out of court.

An Invitation to Trial Practice Section Members:

In the Spring of 2012, the Trial Practice Section of the ACBA announced its collaboration with the ACBA Volunteer Legal Services Corporation (VLSC) and the East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC). Through this collaboration, Section members and their professional colleagues have enjoyed exciting new pro bono opportunities to represent VLSC and EBCLC clients in a number of practice areas, including debt collection defense, family law, low income landlord, clean slate, and probate law.
