9:00 am - 11:00 am • Legal Ethics: The Basics
Learn about the common ethical mistakes lawyers make and how to avoid them. Randy Difuntorum, Director of Professional Competence at the State Bar of California, will present fundamentals of legal ethics.
2 hours of legal ethics MCLE credit will be provided.

11:15 am - 12:15 pm • Elimination of Bias: Diversity by the Numbers
Judge Brenda Harbin-Forte, of the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda, and Patricia Lee, State Bar of California Special Assistant for Diversity Bar Relations, are long-time champions of creating access and fairness in the legal profession. This session will focus on the elimination of bias and the creation of an inclusive legal community.
1 hour of elimination of bias MCLE credit will be provided.

12:15 pm - 1:15 pm • Lunch with Carol Robertson
Enjoy a delicious three-course lunch and a presentation by Carol Robertson, author of The Little Red Book of Wine Law, who has represented grape growers, wine producers and alcoholic beverage retailers. She will share some stories from her unique practice area.

1:15 pm - 3:15 pm • Social Media, Virtual Offices and Ethics
Learn the pitfalls to avoid and the safeguards to put in place to prevent ethical breaches when using social media or working from a virtual office. Robert Hawley, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the State Bar of California, and ethics lecturer at three law schools, will offer insights on this emerging field.
2 hours of legal ethics MCLE credit will be provided.

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm • Detection and Reporting of Substance Abuse
Richard Carlton, Acting Director of the State Bar of California’s Lawyer Assistance Program, will share thoughts on substance abuse in the legal community and offer advice on when and how to report a fellow attorney whose performance is suffering due to substance abuse or cognitive impairment. Judge Carol Brosnahan, of the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda, will provide a perspective from the Bench.
1 hour of substance abuse MCLE credit will be provided.
