The Alameda County Bar Association joins with legal communities across the country in welcoming the verdict in the Derek Chauvin case.  While the verdict cannot bring George Floyd back, it does offer accountability, a much-needed phenomenon in the intersection between the police and the Black community. We applaud the peaceful application of the Rule of Law in this case, demonstrating that when our justice system is functioning, no one is above prosecution or conviction.  We hope to see a similar measured and fair assessment in other cities, and in other cases.  The ACBA continues to stand as an ally to BIPOC communities as legal advocates and professionals.
