What Is VLSC? The Alameda County Bar Association Volunteer Legal Services Corporation (VLSC) provides free legal assistance to low-income and poor people in Alameda County with certain non-criminal legal issues.
The Alameda County Bar Association began its Volunteer Legal Services Program in 1982, and it was incorporated in 1985 as the Volunteer Legal Services Corporation, a tax-exempt charitable corporation. VLSC is governed by an independent board of directors.

VLSC Mission Statement VLSC provides free direct legal assistance to Alameda County's low-income population by mobilizing volunteer attorneys to provide pro bono service.
VLSC Vision Statement VLSC seeks to provide legal help to people living in Alameda County who otherwise cannot afford it.
VLSC Strategic Plan The Strategic Plan was approved by the VLSC Board on May 27, 2008.

- There are 200 people per private attorney in California.
- There are 8,400 poor people per legal aid attorney in California.
- 32% of children in Alameda County live in low-income/poor households.
- 80% of VLSC cases are in family law.
- There are nearly 400 volunteer attorneys with VLSC.
- On average, it take $250 to match one client with a pro bono attorney.
- Hundreds of prospective clients must be turned away by the VLSC each year.
